Tier 2 adds depth to almost every nation in the game and has neat features for them. Tier 3 adds big features to most nations. Tier 4 is nice-to-have. Tier 5 is mostly ignorable.

Tip. There's a common question from EU4 players on which DLC to buy first. Considering the huge amount of DLC this game has, that's totally understandable. Europa Universalis IV: El Dorado - Release Trailer. El Dorado was the second DLC released to have the New World in its focus. However, unlike Conquest of Paradise which came before it, El Dorado adds much more meaningful features to that area, as well as some additions for the rest of the world.
It contains all the game changing DLCs except Conquest of Paradise. But it contains almost no cosmetic DLCs or music packs. Overall it is a very good deal. Even on sale you usually pay more than 100€ for the same content. Edit: it also seems to be missing the Dharma DLC.
Lions of the North is great! Discussion. Up until now I had had plenty of fun runs, but holy shit this latest one is great! Started as Lubeck, completed the mission tree around 1550, thereby formed the Hanseatic league. Easily shifted to Prussia, now I have an excellent economy (and surprisingly many morale buffs) + Prussian military.

NSB - In my opinion the best/most fun DLC in this game. I'd even consider it a must-have right now. TfV - Mostly for the autonomy system, I can't play without it honestly. WtT - Honestly should be in the base game but oh well. Adds general traits, nice focus tree for Germany/Japan. LR and MtG are fine too but not necessary imo. EU4 2021 FULL REVIEW:

THOUGH if you are going for a colonial or trade focused playthrough (which is what Portugal specializes in), it really doesn't add much beyond a few convience features.

Hello all, Just bought EU4, I've been told that Castile is one of the "easy" countries to start with and I have been trying to figure out reconquista, but I cannot figure out how to do it - watched some videos and it mentions something about "slackening," but that appears to be a DLC thing. It's worth it. I Bought; Rights of Man, Golden Century, Art of War and a couple others. Played that way for about 1000 hours. Got the sub waiting for all DLCs to go on sale ( it's usually really cheap) and I realized I have been playing half a game. The HRE expansion alone changes Europe so drastically.
